I’ll try to give a full account of all that I have done and will refer you to other sources where applicable.
There is much to consider and all of us at sometime will need assistance with some aspect of any project. If I state the blindingly obviously I’m not going to apologise as it may provide the link for someone, likewise if I miss something I’m sure someone will point it out!
Please do read the section on KAP and the Law if you are considering taking this up. As with any such pastime if you observe the basics, safety will follow and everyone will be happy.
The basics are no flying of any kite above 200 feet (60 meters) above ground level or 30 meters in the vicinity of an aerodrome/airport. Vicinity means roughly within 2 miles. Do not fly a kite at night. All of the above may be exceeded with the written permission of the appropriate authority and subject to restrictions which they may impose on granting that permission. That Authority in the UK airspace is the UK Civil Aviation Authority, to whom the Police authorities will seek advice from in the event of a prosecution. The Statutory Instruments that govern everything are the Air Navigation Order and The Rules of the Air. I will be putting that all together on the KAP & the Law pages.
If you think you might be pushing it a bit, in my past experiences with the CAA they have always been or tried to be accommodating, so contact them, speak to them. There is a form to fill in and once contact is made you have the peace of mind that the Authorities know what’s going on.
